Viteyes® 2 FAQ’s

Are there any side effects?

Generally, Viteyes® 2 products are well received with very few side effects.

 

  • The relatively high dose of zinc can sometimes cause stomach upset which is usually alleviated if taken with food. For sensitive individuals Viteyes® 2 Zinc-Free is a good alternative.
Can Viteyes® 2 be taken with other medicines and vitamins?

Whilst generally well received, if you take a lot of medication it is always worth discussing with your doctor before starting any vitamin supplement.

 

If you take blood thinning medication (e.g. warfarin), supplements containing vitamin E can upset the levels. Therefore, it is best to discuss the situation with your medical practitioner before starting a new product.

 

No other supplements containing the same vitamins should be taken in conjunction with Viteyes<sup>®</sup> 2 products.

Is it safe to take large doses of vitamins?

During the National Eye Institute studies (AREDS and AREDS2) and in subsequent follow-ups there has been no statistically significant increase in any serious adverse conditions from taking the dose of vitamins and minerals in the Viteyes® 2 range.

Are Viteyes® 2 products suitable for vegetarians/vegans?

Viteyes® 2 CAPSULES, ZINC-FREE and ADVANCED contain no ingredients of animal origin and are therefore suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

 

The rest of the Viteyes® 2 range uses gelatin (bovine) capsules so is not suitable for vegetarians/vegans.

Are Viteyes® 2 products suitable for smokers?

The Viteyes® 2 range is generally considered safe to be taken by smokers as none of them contain beta-carotene.

Can I get Viteyes® 2 on an NHS prescription from my doctor?

Subject to local circumstances, all Viteyes® 2 products can be prescribed under the NHS on an FP10 prescription, so it would be worth discussing with your GP.

What are macular pigments?

Lutein and zeaxanthin are important, naturally occurring pigments at the back of the eye, known as macular pigments. They are yellow in colour and filter damaging high-energy blue wavelength light. They are also antioxidants and therefore protect against the damage caused by free radicals. Importantly, zeaxanthin is not found naturally in the body, but synthesised from our diet and utilised by the body, especially the eye.

 

Research conducted by the US National Eye Institute, North Chicago VA Medical Centre and other studies appears to demonstrate that carotenoids have an important role to play in visual performance and macular health.

 

It is worth noting that despite the various studies which claim the contrary, the EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) has not approved any eye health claim for macular pigments.

BIO-INERTIA: The founding principle

Bio-inertia is at the heart of the Eye Care Cosmetics® formulations and is based on two essential pillars:

  • Ultramicronisation of all the solid particles down to less than 15µm (60% <5µm) because the cells of the cornea measure 8-18µm
  • Use of non-ionic surface-active agents

It promises to fully respect the eye, skin, nail and hair tissues, even in those prone to sensitivities, allergies or during cancer treatment. It excludes ingredients likely to cause problems such as:

  • Irritant or allergenic ingredients (chrome, nickel, cobalt, carmine, essential oils).
  • Ionic substances that may interact with the skin, eye or contact lenses.
  • Ingredients likely to disrupt the skin’s natural barrier and microbiota.
  • Parabens and endocrine disruptors.

Formulations are pH-balanced for compatibility with the skin and eye tissues. They contain low levels of fatty substances and waxes making them non-comedogenic and less likely to clog tear ducts and skin pores.

Being free-from as many chemical ingredients as possible helps make Eye Care Cosmetics® a great choice for contact lens wearers and people with sensitive eyes

As well as specialist manufacturing techniques, the Eye Care Cosmetics® range is designed to be as free-from as many chemical or irritating ingredients as possible. This, along with the careful selection of active ingredients and ultra-micronisation of particles, is why the products are so suitable for people with dry, sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers.

Some products contain talc and in these, the talc we use DOES NOT use the nano-sized particles which people have concerns about penetrating the skin. It is also certified ASBESTOS-FREE and conforms to the ECOCERT/COSMOS cosmetic grade standards for the raw material.

All of the boxes and plastics used for Eye Care Cosmetics® products can be recycled. The recycling number for the plastics varies depending upon the type used. From 1 for the plastic wrap on the pencil eye liners, to 5 and 6 for the mascara tubes and skincare bottles.

Do Eye Care Cosmetics® products contain an SPF?

Some products, such as the complexion corrector compact foundation contain an SPF.

 

Others do not because the chemical filters needed for an SPF can be allergenic.

7eye Airshield® and Ziena® are two ranges of performance glasses/sunglasses featuring a patented removable eyecup that protects against wind, dust and airborne irritants that can exacerbate dry eyes.

They have a wraparound design with a soft foam or silicone edge, forming an eye cup that seals around the eyes. This prevents tears evaporating and holds a warm, moist enclosed area of humidity over the eyes. The eye cup also prevents dust and pollen entering the eyes and this is why both dry eye and hayfever sufferers will benefit from wearing them.

Supplied as standard with shatter resistant SharpView™ lenses they are equally suitable for regular daytime use, walking or even motorcycle riders or other high velocity activities. A complete seal for when the eyes need total protection.

The 7eye range of dry eye glasses

7eye Airshield® and Ziena® dry eye glasses are made to an exceptionally high optical standard and are both well-received and relied upon by dry eye, blepharitis and allergy sufferers.

 

An innovative soft eyecup, in an adjustable, wraparound style frame, forms a peri-orbital seal that creates a moisture chamber to protect the eyes from tear evaporation caused by drafts, cold winds, dry summer breezes and irritation from airborne allergenic particles such as dust and pollen.

 

Eyes are kept comfortable and moist during outdoor activities such as cycling and walking as well as indoor computer or screen watching and air-conditioned offices or flights.

 

There is a choice of foam (on the Airshields®) or clear/black (on the Ziena®)windblocking eyecups, various frame shapes, sizes and 7eye SharpView™ lens options available including; clear, grey/copper, blue light blocking, photochromic, polarised and 2 dark options for those who are extremely sensitive to light.

7eye SharpView™ lenses are optically correct, include 100% UVA+UVB sun protection and are shatter-resistant to ensure superior clarity in every direction. An antifog coating is applied on the reverse of each lens (excluding polarised lenses) to help reduce fogging. In non-prescription, both ranges can be supplied with:

Using the Blephasteam® eyelid warming mask

  • What is the difference between the new Blephasteam® and the previous version?The Blephasteam® new generation device includes many improvements: wireless device, warmup of only 3 to 4 minutes (vs 15 minutes for the previous version), for adults and children from 3 years old, more comfortable for patients, provides a clear and wider vision during the treatment session while maintaining the performance and safety of the previous Blephasteam® version demonstrated in clinical studies.
  • What is the temperature reached by Blephasteam®?The safety and efficacy of Blephasteam® have been evaluated in many clinical studies. Blephasteam® safely provides a controlled moist heat, delivering a temperature of approximatively 42.5°C. It has been shown that a constant warming of the meibomian glands to ≥ 38°C is vital in MGD patients to liquify the meibomian secretions before eyelid massage, whilst higher temperatures, preferably ≥ 40°C are recommended for effective liquefaction of more severely obstructed glands.
  • Are there any potential side effects that can occur?The possible side effects that have been reported are irritation and redness around the eye and eye pain. If you notice any side effects or unusual sensations after using this device, please contact a health care professional and/or report the information to the local distributor (the contacts are available at the end of instructions for use provided with Blephasteam®).
  • Who can use Blephasteam®?Blephasteam® can be used by adults (including pregnant and breastfeeding women) and children from 3 years old (with the presence of a parent or carer).
  • Can Blephasteam® be used on eyes with make-up?Blephasteam® should be used on clean eyes without any make-up or dermatologic ointment.
  • Can Blephasteam® be used after using an eye drops?Eye drops should not be used for at least 15 min before using Blephasteam®.
  • Can Blephasteam® be used with contact lenses or glasses?Contact lenses and glasses must be removed before the treatment session with Blephasteam®.
